Some people call themselves 'intuitive', others 'psychic' and then there are the 'mediums'. Oh and also 'psychic mediums'. Then there is the (old?) adage 'all mediums are psychic but not all psychics are mediums'.
What's the difference?
Stay with me here... I'm going to present several scenarios:
#1 - A woman meets a man for the very first time at a party. He speaks to her about his achievements and lets her know he is single. She has a sense about him that makes her cautious. He asks her to go out with him after the party but she declines because of that cautious feeling. Though not much has transpired between them and she can't put her finger on why she feels that way, she is nevertheless unable to shake that feeling.
#2 - Another woman meets a man for the very first time at a party. As they are making small talk she has an out of the blue memory of a childhood summer at her family's cottage in a remote northern town. Then she randomly starts thinking about roses and gerbera daisies. By the end of the conversation she has learned that this fellow owns a flower store in the same locale where her family's cottage was located.
#3 - Yet another woman, is yes(!), at a party and talking with a good friend whom she hasn't seen in a number of years. All of a sudden her friend's grandmother, who she first met when they were young children, jumps into her thoughts. She fondly remembers the cookies that the granny used to bake and is all but transported by the memory of the aroma. She feels a warmth in her heart and an overwhelming need to ask about the granny. Upon asking her friend how her grandmother is doing she is informed that her grandmother passed away about six months ago.
The above are real world examples of #1, intuition, #2, psychic ability and #3, mediumship ability. Yes... these abilities are in regular, everyday normal folks like you and me. And happen in everyday normal situations like the above.
I wanted to use examples like that in case you might find them applicable in your own life.
To delve a little deeper...
Intuition is the sixth sense, and quite natural to each of us. It is just as normal as sight, touch, hearing, feeling and tasting. It's inside of us. We've all got it. We're all born with it. We flow quite freely with it as small children but, eventually it is conditioned down into a quiet din that we either no longer notice or deny its presence and guidance.
Notice how the woman in the scenario #1 had a sense about the man she was talking with. That's her intuition. She didn't know why or for exactly what reason, she just had a feeling.
Have you ever had the feeling that you should take a different route home from work, only to find out later that there had been a major traffic accident on your normal route? That's what I'm talking about. You don't know exactly why, you just know that you need to.
That's the way intuition works. When we are relating with people, we can see, hear, touch (as long as those senses are functioning for us), and sometimes smell and even taste them. However, we also have a feeling or a sense about them. It might be a really good feeling. It might be a not so good feeling. Though we often don't know exactly why we are having the feeling we are having it is telling us something more about the person, place or situation we are having it about.
So put into plain language intuition is sensing or feeling beyond what the other five senses are telling us. Animals flow with their intuition, constantly trusting it (they don't know how to doubt it like we often do) to help steer them on their course.
In scenario #2 we have an example of psychic ability. The woman is shown a certain memory and a symbol (flowers) via her clairvoyance, which she has perceived from the energy field of the man she is talking with. She is 'picking up' information about him through her psychic capacity.
When we are flowing through the psychic capacity our intuition is taken up a notch or two and, in addition to sensing something, we also receive information that can tell us more specific things about someone. We are perceiving information from the energy field of that person. It may be literal information, however it is often symbolic, the way it was in the form of a memory and randomly seeing flowers for woman #2, for example. Psychics develop and hone this ability thorough practice and training in order to read the energy of their clients and are able to obtain all kinds of useful information during session work.
This psychic capacity lies within us all. It is simply a matter of becoming more aware of it 'in action' and then developing it further should we want to use it the way practicing psychics do.
Scenario #3 is an example of mediumship. You're darn tootin' that the woman in scenario #3 is picking up information, whether she knows it or not, from the spirit world. Her friend's deceased granny was able to get her attention by jogging her memories, showing her cookies, sending her smells and even impressing her heart with warm emotion to the point where she felt compelled to asked her friend how her grandmother was doing.
That's how mediumship works. And that is how spirit works. A medium picks up energy from a spirit via pictures, memories, our olfactory abilities (known as clairalience), evoking emotions, etc. Mediums perceive this information through their clairs. The difference between a random experience like woman #3 had and one that a trained medium has is that the medium has learned how to attune to and focus on the spirit world through practice and training that helps her learn how to purposefully bring through information from that unseen world of spirit.
To wrap it up:
Intuition is a knowing that stirs from within us, tuning us into something important, good or dangerous without the details.
Psychic ability is the ability to focus on and read or pick up information from a person, place or thing that is received in either literal or symbolic form. It can also happen quite naturally as in scenario #2 above. If you sense or know something and it coincides with images, words heard in your mind, etc., it is your psychic ability at work.
Mediumship ability is the ability to focus on and perceive and receive information specifically from the spirit world (as opposed to from the person sitting across from the medium in the reading). This information can also come in literal or symbolic form. It, too, can happen quite naturally as in scenario #3 above. If you receive random images, memories, thoughts, etc. of someone in spirit you are flowing through your mediumship ability.
The terms intuition and psychic ability are often interechanged, which only adds to confusion. Hopefully I have sorted that all out for you in this article.
And yes, all mediums are psychic. However, contrary to what you may have heard or been told, psychics can absolutely learn to perceive energy from the spirit world and become mediums, too. It simply involves learning to shift one's focus to the spirit world. Mediums do not have a leg up on psychics and psychics do not have a limitation. No one who is coming from the highest and best place wanting to serve the spirit world has ever been turned down. Period.
As natural intuitives we can all learn to develop our psychic and / or mediumship abilities.
It's all about energy and we can all learn to focus in on and read all sorts of energy whether it be from ourselves, from another person or from the spirit world.
