Welcome to a new week!
Wednesday is "guess the weight" day at one of my family's favorite frozen yogurt joints. If you guess the actual weight of your cup of yogurt, it's yours for free. If you are within a ten percent range you get ten percent off the full price. "Guess the weight Wednesday" became a ritual for my husband, son and I. We would take an evening stroll together to purchase a cup of fro yo. We'd fill our containers and take them up to the cashier. Before placing the container on the scale he would ask each of us to guess the weight of our fro yo. We would guess, then he would put the container on the scale to reveal the actual weight. Except for one time when my son was within the ten percent range, we paid full price for every cup of yogurt... :(
One week my son and hubby were otherwise engaged so I volunteered to go down and get us a tub of "guess your weight Wednesday" fro yo. I brought the tub to the till. The customer service fellow put it on the scale then quickly realizing that he had not given me the chance to guess the weight he put his hand over the scale display before the weight could register on the screen. He told me to go ahead and guess the weight. I immediately saw a 9 0 8 flash before my eyes. I said "9 point 08". He looked at me with wide eyes and asked "what did you say?" So I repeated "9 point 08". He removed his hand from the scale display which revealed the weight of 9.08 ounces of delicious frozen yogurt. He was shocked. I got my yogurt for free! Yay!
So here's another brief side story regarding the prediction thing...
My husband is a huge horse racing fan. He drags me (just joking honey - I LOVE going to the track with you!) along to the special high stakes race days so that I can use my finely honed psychic skills to predict the big winners, thus making us super rich!
Ummm... so much for becoming super rich at the track. With a few exceptions, we have mostly come home from those race days a few dollars lighter than when we went. So much for my prediction abilities. I have experienced some hits and some misses, probably in keeping with what the usual statistics would suggest about guess work and prediction.
So... what happened at the fro yo store? Why was I able to predict the weight that day and not the other times?
Mull it over and let me know what you think happened there. I will follow up with part two of this blog entry next week. What are your thoughts? Correct "guesses" (or predictions ;) will be entered into a drawing for a free copy of my next ebook which is scheduled for release in mid November.
