Automatic writing, the process of getting into a relaxed state of mind and putting pen to paper is an excellent way to establish a deeper connection with your higher mind and the spirit world and augment and practice your psychic and mediumship skills.
But is automatic writing safe to do?
It can be an amazing thing if it is done well.
However, willy-nilly putting of pen to paper will never do.
Your are, potentially, (which is to say sometimes but not always), allowing a spirit that is unknown to you control your hands.
So you need to go in with a firm understanding of what you are doing and how to do it safely.
Here are my five automatic writing tips:
1. Automatic writing is best practiced with a pen and paper not on a computer keyboard.
If you are going to try automatic writing, then stick to a smooth rolling pen or other writing instrument and a large piece of paper.
Yes, there are those who encourage folks to do automatic writing on their computer, however, the connection between the hand, the pen and the paper is, in my experience essential to the whole experience of automatic writing.
When you use your hand, writing implement and paper, you step into a world of nuance that cannot be captured on a keyboard, things such as squiggles, potential symbols, etc.
Also sometimes the handwriting is very different than your own, which is amazing.
Again, these kind of things cannot be experienced on a computer keyboard, which is limiting.
Plus computer writing programs usually have spell check which can also get in the way of the puritiy of the information coming through.
Why would you want to limit the results of your automatic writing?
Stick to hand, pen and paper for your best, most pure and fullest results.
2. Automatic writing is not a game.
Safe automatic writing is not to be approached in a haphazard or cavalier manner.
Because it involves entering into an altered state of consciousness it needs to be approached with reverence and sincerity.
The Ouiji board has a bad wrap simply because it has been treated as a game by many.
If you are going to practice automatic writing, approach it with the respect it deserves.
3. There are several possible sources for the information that comes through during automatic writing.
During automatic writing your hand will speak on behalf of whoever is controlling it. Here are some possibilities as to who that might be:
Some people also receive writings from angels and other beings that exist on other planes of existence.
Where the information is coming from can be different each time.
Some people find they connect with a new or different member of their spirit guide team during their automatic writing sessions.
Some say they have been guided in their writings by a famous historical person. There have been people who have channeled whole books of information via automatic writing, one of the most famous of these being the Patience Worth books written by Pearl Curran in the early 1900's.
Keep in mind that you can ask for a specific spirit to come through in your writing. It doesn't mean that that spirit will but you can certainly give it at try.
4. Automatic writing is safe if you do it the right way:
Safe automatic writing involves approaching it as I have guided you in tip #2 - with reveranace and respect.
It also involves using proper opening and closing techniques, and setting an intention that is for the highest and the best good.
The steps to safe automatic writing are:
If you feel tired or spaced out gently stand up shake out your arms and legs, and say
“I am IN my body. I FEEL myself IN my body. I FEEL my BODY. I am firmly rooted on the earth, GROUNDED, and IN MY BODY.”
One note: You may want to set a timer so that you can just let go to the experience and not be concerned about time passing. Not worrying about time will take you out of your mind more and contribute to a better state of relaxation.
5. If it feels strange or weird, stop.
If at anytime you feel strange or weird while doing automatic writing, simply stop, put your pen down, and cease the session. This could be because you are not in the optimum space for automatic writing that day, or perhaps are not quite ready for it at this particular time. That's ok. Save it for another day when you are feeling upbeat and joyful, relaxed and prepared.
If you are going to give automatic writing a try keep it joyful and upbeat.
And have fun!
