I have given oodles of readings during my career as a psychic medium. I have found that the reason someone gets a reading is as individual as the person I am reading for. The vast majority of my sessions have been inspirational, moving, healing and transformational for both my client and myself. (Footnote here... that's not because of me, that's because of spirit. That's how spirit rolls!)
But there are those sessions that can go flat, be difficult or become a uphill battle.
This usually happens when the sitter, or client, is not ready for a reading.
Are you thinking about getting a reading with a psychic medium?
And, if so, are you READY?
It's important to ask yourself this before you go ahead and spend your hard earned money. Or waste your time. Or waste the medium's time.
A reading may be just the right thing for you. Or it might not.
I encourage you to delve into what follows to help you gauge whether or not you are really ready to lay your hard earned dollars down on the psychic medium's reading table.
1. You're a skeptic
Being a skeptic is OK. In fact, it's more than OK. It means that you are not easily swayed or taken advantage of, which is a good way to be.
Many skeptics and even non-believers have a reading for the first time and love it. They come away nourished and so glad that they took the step.
Then there are those who don't.
What's the difference?
There are two types of skeptics who seek readings. They are what I refer to as healthy skeptics, and hard core skeptics.
A healthy skeptic usually needs only one positive encounter with a psychic medium to change his mind. He may carry doubt as to whether 'this stuff is real', but he is also open to the experience. Some healthy skeptics are even doubtful about the information they are receiving at first, but then recognize that something wonderful is happening when the psychic medium proceeds to bring through information that can be validated and guidance that may not resonate at first, but upon reflection is very meaningful.
Most psychic mediums are used to reading for people who are healthy skeptics and happily welcome that. After all, as mediums we possess an unshakable confidence in spirit and know that, whether the person we are reading for believes it or not, spirit lovingly supports both us and our skeptic client. We are more than happy to bring through helpful guidance and make the connections with spirit that will gently convince our client of this truth.
Hard core skeptics, on the other hand, make a career out of trying to prove that this "psychic, talk to spirits stuff" is a bunch of malarky. They want the psychic medium to jump through hoops in order to prove she's the real deal. They go into the reading with a closed mind and an attitude of "Go ahead, make my day. I know this stuff isn't true and you're really gonna have to work hard to make me believe otherwise. And even then I probably still won't believe because I know you'll be cold reading or have some other secret way of getting information about me."
This is essentially a trust issue. This type of skeptic does not have an ounce of trust for the experience they are stepping into. Because they don't trust it they, whether they know it or not, block the process at every turn, coming into the session with an energetic wall so high even superman couldn't tackle it. This most often spells trouble. And an unhappy session for everyone - the skeptic, the psychic medium and spirit world.
Neither the Universe nor spirit are interested in "throwing you bone". Especially when you are so dead set in your ways. They will, instead, match your blocking stance and give you a whole lot of nothing in return.
If you are going to go into a session with a closed mind and an "You've gotta prove me wrong" attitude then do yourself a favor and don't waste your time. Or your money. Bottom line... you're not ready.
2. You need to receive a "secret sign"
Picture this. A client goes to see a psychic medium. She brings through his deceased mother, accurately describes her personality traits, places she loved to visit, the pet she cherished, and much much more, including a message from mom that is deeply meaningful and touches his heart. Then he says: "Yes, but what about the secret sign?"
Are you kidding me? The medium just more than did her job and he wants a "secret sign"?
Here's what you need to know: Once we cross over into spirit this sort of silliness drops away. Spirit is far more interested in sending you messages of love, support, guidance and healing for your path than concerned that you get your "secret sign." So if everything hinges on your receiving some kind of coded message or secret sign from your Uncle Joe for you to believe that it's him, and you'll willfully discount the oodles of other valid evidence that the medium brings through to you unless you get that, then you are in the same situation as the hard core skeptic and putting up a big fat barrier. Might you get your sign? Sure, it's possible. But if everything hinges on getting it you can be damn sure that you won't.
Therefore... you are not ready. Save your money.
3. You are in the throws of intense grief
This is a tough one. You would think that, after the loss of a deeply loved companion, the first thing you should do is run off to a medium so she can receive a message from your loved one in spirit to assure you that all is ok.
It, however, doesn't quite work this way.
Intense grief can actually become a barrier to a good flow from the spirit world. When we are in the deep throws of intense grief, our emotions are in upheaval. When we are in emotional upheaval we have a huge need to hear from the person we are deeply missing. We want it SO much. And this is usually the most intense during the first few months after the loss of your loved one.
This is where it gets tricky. There is a period of transition for someone who has crossed into spirit which can last, in earth time, anywhere from approximately three to six months. If a deeply grieving person goes to see a medium too soon, it is highly likely that her loved one will not be able to come through just yet because he hasn't fully completed his adjustment period to the spirit world. It takes time for spirits to get their legs, as it were, and actually be able to communicate through a medium to let the people they left behind know that they are OK.
When the loved one doesn't make an appearance it can be very upsetting for the grieving loved on left behind. That is why I recommend a waiting period of three to six months before you go to see a medium after the loss of your loved one. That gives you some time to move through your grief and for your loved one to make the necessary adjustment to the spirit world.
Can you go to sit with a medium sooner and while in the throws of grief? Sure you can. You've got free will and can choose to do whatever you feel is right for you. If you are going to go sooner than the time period I recommend above try not to set yourself up for disappointment by hanging your hat on hearing from the loved one your are in grieving for during that session. Try to remain open to whatever guidance you receive from those who do come through in spirit. This is the time when other relatives and ancestors in spirit will often bring messages aimed at helping you to heal and loving guidance for your journey through the grief. If, by some chance, you hear from your loved one, then wonderful. But if you don't, and chances are you won't, try not to see it as your loved one not being there for you, or as the fault of the medium you are sitting with. Understand it from the perspective I have shared with you above, give yourself some more time, then schedule another sitting with a medium at a later time beyond that six month period.
Plain and simple you know that you are ready for a reading when you
