People often ask me a some version or another of this:
“Clare, I know I’m intuitive. I just don’t seem to recognize it. Or trust it. How can I become more aware of what my intuition is telling me and trust it more?”
Would you like to be able to better avail yourself of what your intuition is telling you? Would you like to use it more in your day to day life?
Becoming better at recognizing and trusting your intuition can help you get on top of the little annoying niggly things in life. It can guide you seamlessly through the big things, too.
Here are three things that you can do that will help you make more of your intuition on a daily basis:
1. Slow down:
Life is busy. Running here. Doing there. Always doing, running, doing. Admist all this it’s hard enough to just get by let alone listen to, decipher then trust what your intuition is telling you.
This is why it is so important to s-l-o-w down. Give your tired old thinking brain a break, and create space and quiet so that the deeper, wiser part of you - your intuition - can take centre stage. This gets easier to do the more you do it. Yes… yes it does.
Even if only for a few minutes, stop rushing. Stop doing. Slow down. It is so much easier to access your intuition, your heart, your higher self when you are in a place of calm and quiet.
Should you marry that guy? Take a nice long slow walk in nature. By yourself. Not with your chatty neighbor or your well-meaning best friend. You are not going to ask anyone else what you should do. You are going to listen to YOUR heart. What is your heart saying?
Not sure whether you want to stay in your current job? Put aside an hour for yourself, make a nice cup of tea, snuggle up in your favorite chair and bring all of your attention to how you feel about your job. In your soul. Way down deep. Your intuition is meeting you right there. It will happily and easily answer your question. With what’s best for you.
Another way to slow down is to bring your attention into the present moment. Do you usually find yourself preparing for or worrying about something that is happening later, or dwelling on something that happened yesterday or the day before? Your intuition cannot compete with that. And even if it tries to (and it does try!) it usually won’t break through all that clutter. When you want to know what your intuition is saying, how it is guiding you, slow down and bring yourself into the present moment. Notice what is happening now and be fully present with that. Eating? Feel the food in your hands, in your mouth. Taste it… really savor it. Take a good look at how the table is set, how the room feels, who you are with. Come into the present moment. Your intuition will meet you there. Go ahead, give it a try.
2. Inspiration = Intuition!
So many of us miss this very simple way in which our intuition STRONGLY speaks to us. Inspiration! Usually flashes of inspiration come, then go without our ever really recognizing what is actually going on there. Or we question whether that inspiration it is valid or real. When you are feeling inspired that IS your intuition talking to you.
Inspiration dresses itself up as passion, excitement, wondrous revelations, creativity, out of the blue bright ideas, innovations and imagination. So anytime you are feeling or experiencing ANY of these things take note because that’s your intuition talking. Welcome it in, because it is saying a big hello! Then... pay attention.
What is it trying to show you? Take inspired steps towards what and where that inspiration is trying to take you on your path. Yield to the nudge of your inspirations! Feed those passions with actions that support them.
3. Play the Ask then Trust game:
If you know anything about me by this time you know that I am a big proponent of PLAY! Play is key… and so important to developing your intuition. And building trust in your intuition.
So play a little game I call the “Ask, then Trust Game”.
Start small with this game. For example you need to find a present for your mom’s birthday. You have no idea what to give her. This is a great opportunity to play the Ask, then Trust game. Slow down, bring yourself into the present moment and ask “What shall I get mom for her birthday?” Let the answer just come to you. When it does trust it and follow that guidance. It might not be a item at all, but maybe an action, something that you make or some other way of gifting her. Doesn’t matter. Go with it. Honor what your intuition is telling you. Then have fun seeing how that plays out with mom!
As you get better at playing the Ask then Trust game, use it for bigger, more important decisions in your life. Which job offer should you take? Ask, then trust.
Want to know what your intuition is saying about something in your life? Simple. Ask, then trust what you get.
Your intuition will help you answer so many questions that you might have about your life, your direction, how to best fulfill your dreams and desires. Your intuition will never, let me say that again, NEVER let you down nor steer you wrong. It wants you to live in joy and wonder and will always point you in that direction.
So go ahead, apply the tips above in your daily life and rock your intuition like a pro!
