I have a thing for spoons.
I know, right?! Perhaps a little weird, though I feel certain some of you would understand.
I collect them. I scour the bins at thrift stores looking for unique, old, forgotten, tossed off, discarded, orphaned and abandoned spoons. Then I give them a home.
And I love every one of them.
That is why when, one day last April, one of my beloved spoons went missing, I felt kind of sad. I searched high and low for days, going in behind things here and there like the cupboards, the stove and the fridge. I interrogated any and all people who had ever stepped foot into my kitchen to find out what they might know about it, and generally fussed and fretted for a few days over the whole ordeal (what a great way to describe spoon loss, eh?!)
Having left no stone unturned as it were, I eventually gave up. About a week later (finally - yes I know, I'm a bad psychic...) I took a moment to tune in to see what might have happened to my little spoon. I immediately felt a tossing motion and got the impression that the spoon had been tossed. Hmmm... tossed. Then I looked over at the trash can. Oh no.... I thought. Had I accidentally thrown it in the trash? If so it was too late to retrieve it as that trash had gone out to the curb on Monday and it was now Friday... :(
Oh dear... Goodbye little spoon.
Eventually I got over it. I'm a Taurus so it takes me a little while.
Fast forward to last week.
Out of the blue I thought of that spoon again. I was standing in the kitchen and the image of the spoon just popped into my mind. I remembered the feeling that I had tossed it and my interpretation that that meant into the trash. And, for some reason, that day that didn't feel right to me. I also had the sense that I might actually see the spoon again. Which seemed unlikely but I took note of the feeling nonetheless.
Fast forward to this morning... (I fast forward a lot!).
My hubby and I usually enjoy a cup of coffee with each other every morning, but this morning was a little different because he was not feeling well and was still asleep in bed. He is the official green thumb in our house and he lovingly tends and nurtures the garden. Which means that I don't have to (I don't have a green thumb anyway). Which means that I don't meander in the yard like he does. This morning, though, I felt compelled to go out into the garden and greet the day. And, as so often happens to me when I am in nature, I began moving to where I felt subtly guided and pulled. I said good morning to one of our bushes and then felt pulled towards the two willow trees which are just starting to bloom. As I stood between the two of them I felt my gaze being coaxed to my left and down to the ground. And this is what I saw...
Yup... my lost spoon. Found pretty much a year to the day that it had gone missing.
How did it get there right at the base of your willow tree you might ask...?
I wondered the same thing! Then I remembered that the day I noticed it was missing I had washed some cutlery in a plastic washtub so that I could reuse the grey water on the plants in the garden. I took the water and tossed it at the base of the willow tree trunk.
Tossed it... Aha...!
Why didn't your husband find it, then?
Good question. Not sure. But here is what I feel is the answer. He was not meant to find it. I was. He doesn't share my over-the-moon-spoon-love. It is even entirely possible that he's, perhaps, seen it a thousand times but not actually noticed it. (he has found some pretty amazing spoons at the thrift stores though!).
